ABOUT US
Michelle is Principal Designer and owner of Redwood Design. She began her journey in the design and construction industry as a child, observing her father, who was a builder and Architectural designer, on the job site and by her young teen years, learned to draft and render by hand.
For many years Michelle worked along side her father creating custom residential construction documentation (single family home and multi-unit developments) and ultimately found her passion for Interior Design specifically. After achieving her Bachelor of Science Degree, Michelle pursued her post degree diploma in Interior Architectural Design and pursued her career in Victoria BC, serving primarily high end residential renovation clientele.
Following many years of freelance design work and the passing of her father, Michelle was inspired to launch her own firm, to honor her father and her many years of dedicated work in design, and so Redwood Design came to fruition in June 2023.
Why Redwood
After the passing of Michelle's father, Ken, in May 2023, she knew that launching her own firm would not only honour him, but it would have made him so proud as it was something they had dreamed of together. Michelle had been an entrepreneur from a very young age, so the logistics of launching a business were met head on, well all but the naming of the firm.
Having several possibilities that simply didn't seem quite right, she decided to wait and watch for a sign that pointed her to the best possible name that represented her and her design approach. One day when driving on a rural road in her hometown of Comox, she saw a literal sign that was red, wood, and heart shaped.
Using this as the inspiration she'd been seeking, she explored the Redwood tree and its meaning, discovering that it represented strength, longevity, and wisdom, all characteristics she not only acquired from her father, but that she wanted to be fundamentally represented in her business. And so, the company name Redwood Design was born.
